In a world increasingly shaped by technology, digital literacy is no longer an option but a necessity. Women often prioritize household responsibilities and family needs over their own aspirations. However, this trend is gradually shifting. We were delighted to witness this change firsthand when several women approached Sharana, requesting training in digital literacy.
Their goal was clear: to empower themselves with digital literacy, which could be leveraged to either find jobs or enhance their existing businesses
The Women’s Digital Lab was established in July 2024 to equip women with essential digital skills, enabling them to navigate modern life, access online services, and enhance their employment opportunities. The program offers a structured three-month course, designed to be accessible and tailored to the specific needs of women. Each batch typically consists of 10 or more participants.
So far, one batch of 10 women has successfully completed the course and received a certificate recognized by Skill India. In the second batch, 10 women enrolled; however, 5 were unable to appear for the exam due to family obligations. Currently, the third batch is underway, with an increased enrollment of 15 women.

While we strive to make this course accessible to as many women as possible, we maintain a strong commitment to quality and standards. Earning a certificate requires dedication and effort, ensuring that every participant truly gains valuable digital competencies.
The curriculum covers fundamental computer skills such as operating a computer, using Microsoft Office applications, accessing the internet, and understanding digital security. Additionally, the course encourages practical applications, including drafting resumes, using email for professional communication, and handling digital transactions. These skills empower women to pursue higher education, seek better job opportunities, or even start their own business.
Beyond technical training, this initiative fosters a sense of confidence and self-reliance. Many participants begin the course with hesitation, feeling that technology is beyond their grasp. However, by the end of the program, they not only develop technical proficiency but also gain a sense of accomplishment and independence.

Some women were returning to learning after a long gap, some were skeptical yet excited while others found renewed hope for the future, eager to use their newfound knowledge to contribute to their family’s financial stability. One woman, who had faced multiple job rejections due to a lack of computer skills but successfully secured a job after completing the program.
Sharana’s commitment to women’s empowerment through digital education is a testament to the belief that literacy in all its forms including Digital Literacy should be inclusive and accessible to all as it serves as a great leveler of social inequities. The Women’s Digital Lab is more than just a learning space—it is a movement toward equal opportunity, gender equality, women’s empowerment ensuring that no woman is left behind in the digital age.
