Vanmathi, one of our drop-in centre children at the Gayatri House had stopped going to school 2 years ago, to care for her newly born youngest brother. The mother had to go to work soon after the delivery to support the family, and Vanmathi being the oldest girl; was asked to drop out school. They lived in the Kandoctor Thottam slum.
Today with continuous efforts from the social workers who had to spend a lot of time explaining and convincing the parents about the importance of education and going to school: Vanmathi is back at school, in the 8th standard. She could not be happier. Her four siblings are also beneficiaries of the Gayatri House. We wish them all a bright future!
