Sharana’s Drop-in Centre supports vulnerable, out-of-school children, particularly those experiencing neglect, which we recognise as one of the most serious forms of abuse. Addressing neglect takes time, patience and consistent care. The Centre provides a safe, structured and supportive space where children can be protected from harmful peer influences, build trust and develop positive relationships with adults and peers.
Through regular outreach and patient engagement, Sharana’s social workers work with families to gradually bring children into the Centre. Children participate in art, music, yoga, expressive arts, and foundational Tamil, Maths and English, along with receiving nutritious meals.
The focus is on rebuilding confidence, reconnecting children with learning and understanding their individual needs and interests. Where possible, children are supported towards reintegration into formal education, while alternative pathways such as vocational training are explored when appropriate.
